About the Department
We are seeking community minded people with a desire to
serve their community in the noblest way. Volunteer positions are currently
available for Firefighter/EMS, EMS only and administrative members.
The Mount Rainier Volunteer Fire Department, Inc.,
Prince Georges County Company 3, is one of two independent volunteer
corporations operating out of the Bunker Hill Fire Station. The Bunker Hill Fire
Station is located on the border of N.E. Washington DC, and just 5 miles from
the White House. The station operates an Engine, Truck and Ambulance with both
volunteer and career personnel. The main response area for the Bunker Hill Fire
Station encompasses the towns of Mt. Rainier, Brentwood, North Brentwood,
Cottage City and Colmar Manor.
We are close to the University of Maryland (4 miles),
The Catholic University (3 miles) and Prince Georges Community College (9 miles)
to name a few. We have Metro Bus service at our front door and are close to the
Rhode Island Avenue and West Hyattsville Metro stations.
These are just some of the benefits you can get for
becoming a volunteer firefighter/EMT or Administrative member with MRVFD:
High school students may earn their community service
credits needed for graduation.
Participation in the Maryland State Fire Service
Retirement Program (Length of Service Awards Program… LOSAP), which currently is
$450.00 per month after 25 years of active volunteer service.
Tuition Reimbursement Program (through County/State)
Maryland State Tax Credit, currently at $4,750.00 after
3 years of active volunteer service.
Fully Equipped Fitness Center
A chance to make new friends and relationships that will
last a lifetime.
Could possibly lead to a career in the fire service.
Many of our members have gone on to careers in the fire service after
volunteering with us.
No Experience Necessary for new members.
All training and equipment are provided free of charge.
All it takes is a desire to serve your community and a few hours a week! If you
have a few spare hours a week and would like to make a difference in your
community and make new lifelong friendships, come and see what we have to offer.
The only thing it will cost you is your time.
Reciprocity consideration is given to people from other
local jurisdictions and people from out of state that already have training and
experience.
If you are interested in a student live-in program or
just looking for a place to hang your hat, we have two fully furnished dorm
rooms available. We also have ample space in our bunk room, with a separate
female only bunkroom.
If you are a community minded person looking to help your neighbor, WE NEED YOU!
